You know how we all sound silly while talking to babies? But we don’t even care that we sound like fools?! Imagine bringing that lack of self-consciousness into our work, creativity and marketing messages. What a joyful, carefree culture we can create around brand building.

My friend recently told me that he plays my podcast for his one-year-old
Not so that she can learn or anything like that, but just so she can listen to my voice and fall asleep. She wants to play with the phone, but he doesn’t want her to look at the screen. So with the podcast, there’s a sound and he can just turn the screen off. And since she’s familiar with me, he wants her to listen to a familiar voice.
“Oh my God!!!” I was super duper excited. And I’m like, okay, so the next time I publish an episode, I’m going to say hi to her. So bear with me for a couple of moments…“Hi!!!! Sukriti! Chinni. Bangari. Hi darling.” *muah*
Ever notice how we all make absolute fools of ourselves while we’re talking to children and babies?! Hahaha
Especially ones who can’t talk back. It’s hilarious.
If someone’s shot a video clip of me talking to a baby, when I watch it I always think, “Haha just listen to me. I sound so silly!”
If babies actually had the ability to judge, they’d probably be like, “Who are these fools? Why are they talking to us like this?” hehehe But thankfully, they don’t have that way of thinking, that tendency to judge. Good! I don’t want that to change.
And it’s not just when we’re talking to baby humans, but also when we’re talking to animals, especially puppies, kitties, you know, baby animals. We’re always going, coo and goo-goo, and making all kinds of gurgling noises and things that we never catch ourselves doing in other circumstances!
Makes me wonder, what makes us do that? What gives us the ability to, you know, without feeling conscious, actually talk that way and interact that way? Do whatever it takes to make them smile or laugh or react to whatever we are saying in positive ways? We’d do anything for that!
What if we took that ability to be absolutely not self-conscious of who we are, how we are, and put that into our business, our creativity?
What if we put our content, thoughts, and messages out into the world just for the joy of doing it? We do it to connect, and we do it as ourselves, as our authentic, true selves. Imagine how it would feel to be able to be free and happy, and not worried about judgement at all.
Babies don’t judge us. We feel safe around them. We feel nice around them. And also, we have the faith that we’ll be rewarded with a smile or a hug or a giggle or whatever. Or even if we’re not rewarded, it’s still okay, because it’s still so enjoyable to communicate with them that way.
So, without, of course, the “goo-goo-gaa-gaa” and talking like literal fools, how about we not worry if we’re sounding foolish?
When we put our message out there, whether it’s a marketing message, a podcast episode like this, a blog post, whatever, what if we don’t worry or stress too much, and let it flow naturally?
Let it come out without this thought of, “What will people think? How might they react (or not react)?” What if we’re just truly ourselves, open and free? I think that’s kind of wonderful! Let’s lean into our authenticity.
If we can be ourselves, then everybody else can too
You’re giving the world permission to do it.
It’s again back to babies. When we’re around babies, everyone’s making a fool of themselves. Everybody’s sounding silly, you know? And not caring about it.
What a happy, delightful world it would be if we could all be a little childlike, a little innocent and open and free. And just put things out there without worrying too much about judgement.
I feel like it’s going to make not just the world a better place, but also make things flow easier for us
We’ll be able to create more, put ourselves out there more, market more, in a much more smooth way without overthinking, over-analysing, just being our true selves.
So yeah, that’s about it. That’s what I wanted to share for today.
And I want to say bye to Sukriti again.
But before I say that, sign up for my newsletter, The Feel Good Tribe. I have lots of fun stories in there.
All right. Bye. Talk to you again next week. Take care!
And…”Bye-bye, Sukriti baby. Byeeeee.” *muah*
